CODY'S SNAKE TATTOO
TATTOO OUTLINE
DESCRIPTION
After an evaluation of my sketchbook, Cody said he wanted this snake I drew tattooed on him. Of course, I gave him the disclaimer that I am not a professional tattooer, so it might not be perfect. Which is why I reccomended that we put it on his upper thigh, where he has already been tattoing himself.
BRIEF
This was the first tattoo I have done on someone other than myself in nearly 15 years, so of course I wanted to take my time and do as good of a job as possible. However, the first priority and main goal when tattoing at home is always safety. As a non professional, it is best practice to go above and beyond the sterilization process that feels necessary. Therefore, methodically prepping and cleaning the tools and workspace is an absolute MUST, and is checked over twice for extra assurance.
IMPACTS/AWARDS
- First and foremost, I am obviously proud that Cody is willing to wear my drawing for the rest of his life
- He can count as a physical piece of art for the last Graphic Design class that I unfortunately have to miss

VERSIONS/TESTING
Placement and size are huge components of tattooing, and we wanted to get this snake curling around Cody's existing Cowboy Skull nicely. So, it took a few prints to get the sizing correct for the space. I printed a few different versions, varying between 6-8", and in the end we went with a 7" design.
WHAT WENT WRONG...
Because I am not a professional tattooer, there were some bumps and bruises along the way. But, I am proud of how most of the lines came out.
-Not having a mastered level of control over my power supply, it is hard to say that I was running my tattoo machine at the perfect speed for the type of work I was doing. Therefore, there are small blowouts throughout the tattoo (places where the line went a little too heavy or too long). These spots will look fine enough, but wont age as well as a perfectly weighted line would.
-There are a few spots in the scales and body of the snake that are inconsistent. However, I am proud of the line work in the most important spots of the piece (the eye, tongue and tail). These are the key places that draw viewers eyes in this design.
